Take a break from the city in this garden paradise, where natural landscaping and diverse plant displays complement its historic buildings.

Cubbon Park is one of the reasons why Bengalaru has been nicknamed the Garden City. Wander down tree-lined paths to find enchanting flower displays, beautiful lawns, historic buildings and a musical fountain.

This green region was created in 1870 and named after a former British Commissioner of the Mysore Kingdom, Sir Mark Cubbon. It was influenced by both British landscaping traditions and Indian architecture.

Your stroll along the park's symmetrical pedestrian avenues will take you past rock outcrops and thickets of trees and bamboo. Enjoy the manicured lawns and displays of indigenous and exotic plant species. Approximately 6,000 plants and trees thrive within this 300-acre (121-hectare) commons. Among them are heavy silver oaks and gulmohar trees, noted for their bright red flowers.

The park also features several historic buildings, including the August Bandstand, where British air force pilots used to spend their Saturdays listening to western music. Walk along the Java fig avenue to reach the Government Museum, which exhibits relics from India's Mohenjodaro period and coins that are more than 5,000 years old.

Photograph the Attara Kacheri, a striking red brick building which features Gothic-influenced Corinthian columns, and houses the High Court. Enter the chambers to see an imposing portrait of Sir Mark Cubbon on the ceiling. Nearby, Seshadri Iyer Memorial Hall has a similarly magnificent red color scheme. Linger in its rose garden and then browse the city's library within.

While you are in the park, take the kids to Jawahar Bal Bhavan. This children’s park is famous for its popular mini-train, the Puttani Express. The nearby Doll Museum offers an insight into the history of playtime.

Come back to Cubbon Park in the evening for the dancing musical fountain. There are two performances, each one lasting 30 minutes. Visit the park’s website to find out when they start.

Cubbon Park is situated in central Bengalaru at the heart of its administrative center. Reach the park via train or bus, or take a taxi which is affordable and more comfortable.
