I recently stayed at the Hotel Astor for nine days. Although I did enjoy my stay, it wasn’t completely what I was expecting. Here are the pro’s and con’s of my stay there.
Pro’s:
Location - you’re a short walk from the beach, about two blocks. It’s very close to Ocean Dr so you’re just a few steps away from all the restaurants, but still far away enough to not be disturbed at night by any noise. There’s a CVS right across the street and a supermarket on the next block.
Con’s - unfortunately, the building is in desperate need of repair. The room doesn’t fully resemble the pictures they show as they are from way back when the hotel was in its glory days.
Multiple lights weren’t working, both toilets did not flush properly, I had to fill the trash can with water to flush.
Vents in the bathroom did not work
The mini fridge did not work even after a few days of having it plugged it because it wasn’t when we got there.
The furniture was in decent conditions, but they did seem a bit old and worn out
They did not provide enough towels or bedding sheets for a 9 days stay. Not even a towel to dry your face
There’s no one ever at the front desk which makes it very hard to ask for anything
No parking! But there’s G2 parking garage which is way cheaper than the public parking
All in all, you get what you pay for. It’s cheap and convenient for its location. You get to enjoy south beach and save yourself a few bucks. Just don’t get your hopes too high.
