Restaurants, shops and gardens surround busy Tiberias Marina in the heart of Tiberias Old City. It is divided into two charming sections adorned with ferries, sailboats and fishing vessels. Check out the various boat trips available from the piers extending into the Sea of Galilee.
From the southern part of the marina, ride the so-called Jesus Boats that are run by Holyland Sailing. Climb aboard one of the wooden boats built in the image of a 2,000-year-old vessel discovered in 1986. Go sailing on the Sea of Galilee and chat with the skippers and crew about what they consider a re-creation of the spiritual experiences in the time of Christ and his disciples.
Stroll along the marina’s pier and admire the variety of sailboats and yachts. Enjoy the stunning vista of the vast lake, with arid, rolling terrain framing the backdrop. A few upscale bars and restaurants here provide a stylish and laid-back environment near the water. Alternatively, bring food and drink for a picnic in the adjacent Hazikaron Garden.
Walk north past St. Peter’s Church, the Sculpture Garden Museum and St. Andrew’s Church of Scotland, Tiberias, to reach the northern part of the marina. Known as the Lido, this port is another option for dining and shopping. Go on a speedboat trip or embark on a cruise.
Many people celebrate their weddings, birthdays and bar mitzvahs with parties on boats from this terminal. Stroll north along the shore of Blue Beach and sunbathe next to the water.
Tiberias Marina lies along the eastern side of Tiberias Old City in the southeastern part of the city. Ride a bus to a nearby street and get around the area on foot. Make sure to explore the district for other sights such as the Herod Center, the Tomb of Maimonides and the New City Market.
