Perched in the corner of the main town square, San Lucas Church stands out with its rounded tips and pink façade. It dates back to the 18th century and has a typical Spanish missionary design. Look around this iconic church for a glimpse into the architecture of the city’s colonial past.

Appreciate the elegant design of the arched tower containing two bells, one on top of the other. Read the adjacent plaque commemorating the inauguration of this church in 1746. Enjoy the pink-and-white color palette of the pretty frontage. Outside the church stands a bold wooden cross, surrounded by varied cacti.

Enter through the wooden door and stroll around the nave to admire the colorful statues of biblical figures. Pass through arches and notice the light and airy setting of the church’s interior. You may wish to sit on one of the light brown pews and check out the altarpiece. Make a donation and light a candle for a loved one. At the top of the set of steps is an external courtyard.

Attend a bilingual Mass service on Saturday evening or Sunday at noon and get to know the locals. See the church at Christmas, when it is decorated in festive lights. Explore the adjacent plaza for its array of restaurants and bars. Charming shops display handicrafts and souvenirs. Purchase snacks and treats from the vendors outside the church.
