The Port of Corfu sits on the northern tip of Corfu Town, just a short walk from historic Old Town.The Port of Corfu is the ideal place to take a break from tourist-heavy attractions. Enjoy lazy walks along the almost traffic-free seafront road. Look up at the impressive Italianate buildings, characterized by tall façades, soft pastel colors and wrought iron balconies. Check out the imposing Old Fortress in the background, which presents some excellent photography opportunities.
Enjoy traditional Greek food, such as feta cheese, tzatziki and fig cake, at one of the handful of cafés and taverns. Sit at an outdoor terrace and watch the cruise ships and private yachts sail by. Alternatively, bring a picnic and find a quiet spot along the seawall.
Located around the port are jetties and steps that lead into the clear and warm sea water. Join local residents for a swim and the chance to cool off on one of Corfu’s renowned sunny days. The water here is safe but there are no lifeguards, so swim with caution. Step aboard a passenger ferry and make the short trip to Vidos Island. Follow tree-lined trails to discover secluded beaches, the remains of a prison and a small wildlife sanctuary.
After exploring the Port of Corfu, make the short 15-minute walk to the historic Old Town. Here you’ll find many of Corfu Town’s major attractions. Visit the town’s two grand Venetian-style fortresses. Peruse some of the 15,000 objects of Asian art at the Museum of Asian Art.
