Designed by the architect Santiago Calatrava, the Palacio de Exposiciones y Congresos (the Exhibition and Congress Palace) is a modern icon of Oviedo. Visit to see for yourself why so many people and businesses favor this spectacular building.
Visitors who come to Oviedo for business may find themselves here for a conference or meeting, but leisure travelers to the city will be awestruck without even stepping foot in the building. Take the time to walk all the way around the towering, modern structure that spans two levels. The angles are sharp and the lines are clean, evoking a futuristic image.
Look up from across the street to see the seemingly endless columns of windows surrounding the building. The skies in Oviedo are often clear and filled with sun, and on those days the white structure stands in stark contrast to its blue background.
Inside, find a massive auditorium with dark blue seats and modern white walls with half circle patterns across them. Come for a concert or musical event to appreciate the quality of the acoustics and the way roof can be adjusted according to how much light is required inside.
Also within the building are 16 additional rooms that host regular press briefs and seminars. Another space encompasses areas for events and exhibitions, and underneath the structure is a shopping mall and parking garage. Look to the sides of the building to find the hotel and two office buildings that complete the design.
Drive your car to the center to use the parking garage underneath the building, or plan on taking public transportation to avoid the traffic. Local buses stop nearby and the city’s main train stations are within walking distance of the Palacio de Exposiciones y Congresos. Access to the grounds of the center is free, though many exhibitions and conference will require a ticket to enter.
