Water sports, stunning scenery and walks to quiet coves await at this beach located to the east of Albufeira’s Old Town.

Be energetic or simply relax at Oura Beach (Praia da Oura). With abundant water sports, a picturesque Algarve backdrop and a promenade lined with bars and restaurants, this is one of the liveliest beaches of Albufeira. Oura Beach is home to several large resort hotels, thus making it a busy coastal destination year round.

The beach has Blue Flag status, an award given to beaches that meet a stringent criteria for environmental control, safety and water quality. It boasts an appealing strip of fine sand with vegetation-covered rocks at both ends. Look for a quiet spot by the rocks, lay down your towel and enjoy the laid-back ambiance. Alternatively, rent chairs and umbrellas from in front of the beach bars.

Get active by renting water sport equipment and joining tours at the beach’s adventure center. Explore at your own pace via Jet Ski, kayak and paddle boat. Try flyboarding, parasailing, wakeboarding and waterskiing. Take an exhilarating ride on a jet boat and water sled. Discover the outstanding natural beauty of the Algarve, visit hidden bays and spot dolphins on a cruise.

Another fun activity to do when visiting the beach is to walk along the seashore at low tide. It’s possible to get all the way to Olhos de Água Beach via Santa Eulalia Beach and Maria Luisa Beach. On the way you’ll pass small bays and hike over rocky hills.

Bars, cafés and low-key restaurants line the cobblestone promenade. Dine on fish and seafood dishes such as calamari, fried sardines and garlic prawns. The prices are reasonable despite the privileged waterfront location.

You can reach Oura Beach from Albufeira’s Old Town by driving for 15 minutes or walking for 40 minutes. Parking is available on the street that accesses the beach, although spaces fill up fast in the summer months. There’s also a large metered car park in the village.
