Enjoy an aerial view over Prague’s Old Town and admire the city’s world-famous astronomical clock at this 14th-century Gothic tower.

The Old Town Hall Tower is an architecturally impressive monument that looms over the southwest corner of Prague’s Old Town Square (Staroměstské námesti). From the tower’s viewing gallery, marvel at the city’s picturesque rooftops. The Old Town Hall Tower is also the site of the magnificent Astronomical Clock, making it one of Prague’s most-loved tourist attractions.

This 230-foot-tall (70-meter) Gothic tower dates back to the mid-1300s and was added to the Old Town Hall later that century. A major highlight is experiencing the wonderful views from its outlook area. Get here by climbing a spiral staircase or travel up in an elevator. Gaze over the city’s innumerable spires and the colorful burgher houses, which frame Old Town Square. Spot notable landmarks such as the hilltop Prague Castle.

The tower’s exterior is a true architectural gem, dominated by the 15th-century Astronomical Clock. Arrive on the hour to watch the clock’s procession of the Twelve Apostles. Note how the clock shows the accurate position of the sun and moon in addition to the time and date. Look for a medallion that symbolizes the signs of the zodiac plus embossed coats of arms and sculptures of religious icons.

If you have time, join a guided tour of the Old Town Hall. Peek inside richly decorated ceremonial halls, meeting rooms and a 14th-century chapel. See the mechanisms that control the Astronomical Clock and rotating art exhibitions. Visit a late 12th-century Romanesque hall, the tower’s foundations and former prison cells in the building’s vaults.

Located on Old Town Square, the Old Town Hall Tower is easy to reach on foot from major city attractions. Walk from Staroměstská, the closest metro station, in 5 minutes. The cafés around Old Town Square are ideal for enjoying relaxed views of the tower and clock.

The Old Town Hall Tower and Old Town Hall are open daily. Each has a separate admission fee. Watch the Astronomical Clock for free. Visit the Old Town Hall’s official website for more information.
