KLCC stands for Kuala Lumpur City Centre and KLCC Park is indeed in the heart of the city, at the foot of the monumental PETRONAS Twin Towers. Note, however, that the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, at KLCC Park, is also abbreviated to “KLCC.” The 50-acre (20-hectare) park is a popular retreat from the city for locals and tourists alike. There are play areas for kids, a lake with high-pressure water jets, walking and jogging tracks, statues and grassy lawns.
Stroll the walkways and examine the immaculately-landscaped gardens or find yourself a comfortable spot to watch the bird life. Roughly 2,000 palms and native plants were especially selected to lure a variety of native and migratory species of birds to the park. Shift your gaze to the skyscrapers of central Kuala Lumpur to admire the scale and splendor of Malaysia’s biggest city.
Stop by at dusk to see the PETRONAS towers light up and catch the Lake Symphony water and light show. During this fountain spectacular, dozens of water jets in the park’s man-made lake shoot high into the air as music plays and colorful light beams dart through the streams. If you can’t make a night session, there’s also a show at noon each day.
Stroll around the lake to admire a range of eye-catching sculptures or pull up a chair at a waterside café for a bite to eat. Take the kids to the playground or splash about in the wading pool. Both are designed for kids under 12, but parents are also allowed to join the fun.
Head to the northern edge of the park to find the enormous Masjid As Syakirin Mosque. Visitors should show respect by not exposing too much skin and women will need to wear a headscarf. It’s also best not to visit during prayer times or on holy days.
KLCC Park is easy to find on the southeast side of the PETRONAS Twin Towers. It’s accessible from the both the towers and surrounding streets. If you are driving, there is pay parking beneath the park, which also has a Light Rail Transit (LRT) station. The park is open from morning until night and admission is free.
