Gitgit Waterfall is one of the most visited destinations in Bali. The falls are set within a stunning tropical landscape, some 98 feet (300 meters) above sea level, and have a drop of about 148 feet (45 meters). From the entrance near the car park, walk past rice paddies, through the clove plantations and into the rain forest. Enjoy the lush foliage and the cooler mountain air. Chat with the local vendors and their children as they offer their wares along the path. Descend the staircase and follow the path to the majestic waterfall. At the base of the falls, climb over of the rocks and dip into the water. Wade in the rock pools, or meditate on the rocks as the mist from the falls flows around you. At the end of the day, have a bite to eat at the restaurant just up the hill. There are numerous waterfalls and cascades in the area however, the three main waterfalls open to the public are Gitgit Waterfall, Story Gitgit Waterfall and Campuhan Waterfall. All have separate parking areas but are within close proximity to each other. Watch out for the wild monkeys who come to drink from the falls they are masterful thieves with a liking for expensive sunglasses! The falls are situated in the village of Gitgit, 6 miles (10 kilometers) from Singaraja Town and 43 miles (70 kilometers) from Denpasar. To get there, rent a car, take a taxi or bemo (mini bus), or hire a local driver. Note that the walk to the falls includes some steep steps, so be sure to wear appropriate footwear. The Gitgit Waterfall visiting hours are from morning until early evening and there is a small admission fee.
