"Corridors & hotel room tired e.g. torn wallpaper, scuffed table. Receptionist accused me of not paying for dinner the night before where I had to provide a credit card statement as proof of payment as apparently the till receipt wasn’t suffice & the Waiter didn’t provide a pdq receipt. "We have stayed at the Old Hall Hotel over many years. On each visit we have never been disappointed with anything the hotel offers. A stay at the hotel is a unique experience. Its long history, in a wonderful location, reflects an atmosphere and character not possible in a more modern hotel. "Nice hotel if lacking a bit of character. Room was ok. It was facing the main road so a bit noisy - no chance of a lie in if you wanted one especially on the Monday. "A lovely, comfortable hotel. A good location overlooking Ashbourne with plenty of parking in the pub carpark across the road. The bedroom and bathroom were warm and cosy during a very cold night. Complimentary milk, soft drinks and water in refrigerator - a wonderful touch. The breakfast in the adjoining pub was delicious. Will definitely be returning "

"I imagine this hotel was nice… 20 years ago when the photos advertising it were taken. Such a shame because it’s a nice building in a lovely area. I can’t speak for the original building itself, maybe those rooms are better kept, but we were placed in the outbuilding across the way and the rooms were incredibly tired and shoddy, with chipped paintwork and soiled carpet. A stay at the Roaches

"A very pleasant stay in a beautiful area. A good location for walks in the south of the peak district, particularly up to Hen's Cloud and the Roaches, Gradbach Mill and Lud's Church, and a little further away Miller's Dale & Chee Dale gorge. Nice to have a welcoming couple of slices of homemade cake and a jug of fresh milk on arrival. The accommodation was comfortable and had everything we needed. The mobile service (EE) is not the best from within the cottage through the solid stone walls but better upstairs. The TV has all the usual freeview channels. No wifi available."
