One of the most recognizable structures in Brasília is a theater complex with a flamboyant pyramidal design and a roster of exhilarating theatrical productions and concerts.

Reserve your tickets for a play, concert or opera at the Cláudio Santoro National Theater. Brasília’s chief venue for live performances is a multi-theater cultural space with an eclectic schedule of shows.

The complex takes its name from a famous Brazilian composer, conductor and violinist and was designed by renowned architect Oscar Niemeyer. Admire the architecture of the white concrete, iron and glass building. It is shaped like a truncated pyramid, with sloping sides and a flat top. Look closely at some of the façades. They have been decorated with concrete cubes and rectangles.

Before watching a performance, browse the works of art dotted around the complex. They include The Contortionist, a twisted bronze sculpture, and The Bird, another figure in bronze. You can also stroll through the theater’s grounds and scenic gardens.

Then take your seats in one of the three theaters. The smallest space is the intimate 95-seater Alberto Nepomuceno Theater and the largest is the Villa-Lobos Theater with more than 1,300 seats. Its foyer is a beautiful space with large skylights, plants, trees and flowerbeds. This area is also occasionally used for recitals, art shows and concerts. Go up to the foyer's mezzanine level, where there are always exhibitions.

The Cláudio Santoro National Theater is located near the National Congress in the center of Brasília and is easy to get to by train or bus. There are several metered parking lots within a couple of minutes walking distance from the theater.

While you are in the area, visit some of the attractions close to the cultural venue. They include the Monumental Axis, the National Museum and the Three Powers Plaza.

To find out what's going on at the theater during your stay in the city, visit its official website. Alternatively, call the box office during normal business hours.
