Interesting hands-on learning experiences are just one part of this wonderfully well-equipped aquarium, home to around 15,000 different fascinating creatures.

Audubon Aquarium of the Americas is one of the most comprehensive and impressive aquariums in the U.S. Come here to see and learn about almost 600 species, housed in carefully constructed replicas of their natural environments. Entertain the children in your group at this special place even adults can learn a lot at this fascinating attraction.

Look for the Audubon Aquarium’s huge and distinctive shape, which is an unmissable landmark on the banks of the Mississippi River. Step inside its doors and prepare for a magical glimpse of an underwater world that is normally hard for us to access. Walk the Caribbean Reef Tunnel, surrounded on all sides by brightly colored marine creatures hailing from these tropical waters. At 30 feet (9 meters) in length, the tunnel is long enough to offer a look at a wide range of different species.

Another special highlight of the aquarium is the Seahorse Gallery, which is devoted to one of the oddest, but best-loved, creatures in the ocean. Watch these strangely elegant creatures float all around you. Time your visit just right and you will even see their babies.

Take the chance to feel the skin of some aquatic creatures at the Stingray Touchpool. Pet the friendly rays and marvel at the unique texture of their skin. This attraction is always a favorite with younger visitors.

Perhaps one of the most remarkable animals in the entire aquarium is the rare white alligator, which is native to Louisiana. After spending a while looking at this powerful but sadly endangered species, move onto something a little more approachable. Head to the sea otter enclosure and watch the playful antics that make these energetic animals so popular with visitors. Stop by the penguin area for an additional dose of cuteness.

For an extra special experience, buy a combined ticket that includes access to the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas as well as the nearby Insectarium and Zoo. Prepare to spend quite some time here, getting to know the many captivating residents.
