Liverpool’s fashionable waterfront precinct is home to some of the city’s best restaurants and bars, and many of the city’s best museums.

Liverpool’s most popular entertainment precinct was once the world’s most sophisticated city port. Built in 1846, the state of the art dock featured one of the world’s first hydraulic cranes and a series of large warehouse facilities. Today Albert Dock has been overhauled and features an intriguing mix of historical sites, fashionable bars and restaurants, and many of the city’s major cultural institutions. Right in the city center, Albert Dock is one of the most popular destinations in Liverpool, and is a great place to base yourself during your stay.

Visit the dock by day to discover the fascinating history embedded in the area. Walk along the water’s edge for views of historic Liverpool. There are a number of classic wooden ships still moored at the dock, and joining one of the many tour boats that operate from the dock is a great way to see the area. The tours provide historical information as well as a picturesque sightseeing opportunity.

Back on dry land, make your way to one of the many museums and galleries on the dock. The Tate Liverpool is one of England’s most prestigious art galleries. See work by Jackson Pollock, Pablo Picasso and Santiago Sierra, alongside many of Britain’s biggest names. The nearby Beatles Story Museum, International Slavery Museum and the Merseyside Maritime Museum are great places to spend a few hours learning about various aspects of the city’s history.

Finish your day with a drink or dinner as you watch the sun set over the water. Try traditional British fish and chips, or a range of international cuisine. Locally made beers can be found at a number of bars. The lively restaurant quarter is a popular destination for locals and visitors alike, and the atmosphere on a weekend is vibrant.

Albert Dock is located on the edge of the city center and can be reached by car, bus or on foot. 24 hour parking is available for a fee. The precinct is open daily.
