"Do yourself a favor and stay at El Capitan when you're in Merced. The pictures don;t do it justice. It's an oasis in the Central Valley, located on the hippest block in town."

So Expedia nor the padre never let me know they canceled my room the morning of checkin. I was still able to get a room but it might be something to look into. Especially for people traveling a distance like I was . "
