The location of this B&B is superb but sadly that’s the best thing about it. It is clear that the overall rating is boosted by those people staying in the penthouse room which does look wonderful. Sadly those who haven’t chosen to spend money on that room are left with rooms that certainly don’t fit the advertised rating.
Good things: the staff were welcoming, the facilities in the room great, and the car park is next door. On a summers evening the terrace bar would have been great, although this isn’t relevant on a winters evening. The restaurant looked okay, it was busy. but we chose to eat at the more relaxed cafe just along the road which was outstanding.
Disappointing things: Purbeck is a loud room. Noise from the kitchen below & the next door pizzeria all evening and into the night, which then started again early in the morning, plus noise from the rooms next door as the walls are very thin. The air-con worked, but it was necessary because the room was hot and stuffy and the windows only opened at the top. No view… just frosted windows overlooking the side of the pizzeria next door, a bathroom that needed an update.
The most frustrating factor was that despite saying on booking that we required hypo-allergenic bedding & calling that morning to check we were still given feather pillows! The receptionist admitted that they didn’t read the message through hotels.com.
All in all not good value for money, but a great location and really nice staff running it.
