The property and houses at Domaine les Martins are gorgeous. Photos really can’t do it justice, as there are so many details that make this place special such as an outdoor fireplace, a luxe hamock in a shady spot and a breakfast table beneath a fig tree. There’s also a salt-filtered pool that’s cool in warm weather and heated when it’s cool.
My room was spacious and comfortable, with luxurious linens and towels, a fantastic view from the terrace, and a large bathtub. Breakfast were beautifully presented and generous – fresh fruit, meat, cheeses, yogurt, granola, bread, homemade pastries, olives, fresh tomatoes and cucumbers. The owners make their own jams with local fruit and herbs from their garden, and they also harvest their own olive oil.
The country location is a short drive from the town of Gourdes — One of the most beautiful in France. It’s a great base from which to explore the Luberon Valley, and it’s about a half-hour drive from Avignon. There is plenty of culture there, such as a world class contemporary art museum the collection Lambert.
David and Règis are wonderful hosts; they’re warm, charming, and knowledgeable about the region. I’m so glad I stayed at this special place, and I look forward to returning.
