“They’ve nicely updated the surface without fixing the problems underneath. So there’s a lovely comfy bed but a terrible smell of mold; a beautifully tiled shower with a floor so slippery my husband fell and almost hit his head on the edge of the built in seat. There’s an infrared light in the bath but it doesn’t work and there’s no fan; a microwave but the cups are plastic, a coffeemaker with no instructions, and a receptionist who doesn’t do eye contact.”

“This property needs to be removed from the Expedia site. The photographs that it shows must’ve been taken about 50 years ago. The property is completely dilapidated and it looks as if it is possibly a halfway house for alcohol and drug abusers.”

“South Shire is a quaint Victorian Inn on Elm Street within walking distance to the center of Bennington, VT. The Inn has a family feel and elegance. We traveled as a couple. It was easy to get to sites and enjoy fine restaurants. The Inn is in keeping with the feel of strength of the Bennington community, as a place for artists, musicians, and people's expression generally to thrive. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend South Shire.”

“Nice quite place to stay the night. No second floor, so there was no chance of being disturbed by people walking above you. Clean room, including the bathroom. I liked that it had a mini fridge so we could put food in it that we brought with us. There was also a separate freezer where I refroze my ice packs over night. Very handy. I didn't have any food to reheat, but if I had, the microwave would have come in handy. I did use the coffee pot for coffee in the morning. I took off a star...

“The room was very clean. Beds comfortable but bed frame was metal and made loud noise sometimes while on the bed. Staff was great. Pool closed and ice machine broken. Breakfast was good. Picnic table area was dirty from smokers who didn't bother to use the 2 ash trays there.”

“Absolutely horrible, felt like a waste of money so I didn’t go back for check in at 3 even though it was listed at 2pm. Went with somewhere else.”

“Two things can improved: 1). The bathroom needs to be renovated. It has a dirty look. 2). The security alarm was beeping irritatingly all the first night. This prevented us from getting anywhere near a good night sleep. I did not find the owner very responsive. He said someone would be there by 4 PM the next day”
