“I have stayed at this hotel over 5 times under 2 different owners. The spa is always impressive however Champneys now charge extra for residents’ access per day. This results in a stampede at 3pm for guests wanting to (rightly) get their money’s worth. It really detracts from the ability to relax. The spa bar area could do with a little TLC: walls marked; carpets covered in crumbs; cobwebs on the ceiling alcoves; plastic champagne flutes!!! The bed was comfortable and the bedroom spacious....

“We had a really relaxing stay here we stayed in the area called the cottage it was a very old building it didn’t look so great outside but had a surprisingly cosy interior we booked the twin bed room we are not used to small beds so it was a bit difficult to sleep but I watched the last kingdom with subtitles and eventually drifted off a twin room was all they had left on a bank holiday weekend the hotel had a lovely spa it really made the stay special, we also went to the Fat abbot restaurant...

“Top notch stay all around. Beautiful hotel, friendly staff, and location was central to everything. One piece of advice: we made the mistake of booking spa treatments with Thermae instead of the Gainsborough - we should definitely have booked with the hotel. Their facilities were far superior to Thermae's! Highly recommend!”

“Excellent hotel, lovely staff. Would recommend eating in the restaurants. Continental breakfast included, good varied choice. Beautiful view from restaurant. Just need to update the lighting and switches in the bedrooms as quite dark and switches were old momentary type.”
