Enjoy a fun and relaxing stay in this Texas city. Explore museums, heritage and the great outdoors.

Temple is an enticing city, located in the center of Texas. It began as a small railway town in 1881 and today is known for its museums, forests and wildlife trails.

A good way to start your vacation is by delving into Temple’s past. Visit the 1911 Santa Fe Depot that houses the Temple Railroad and Heritage Museum. Browse exhibits covering the history of the railroad. Study collections chronicling hundreds of years of everyday life in the region at the Bell County Museum.

Walk among the ornate statues and carvings at Hillcrest Cemetery, where some tombstone epitaphs are in foreign languages. They reflect many nationalities that settled in Temple, including Czechs, Chinese, Italians and Koreans. Learn about Slavic people who came to the area with a trip to the Czech Heritage Museum and Genealogy Center.

To enjoy the local art scene, visit the Temple College Visual Arts Complex. During school sessions, students exhibit works in photography, ceramics, drawing and painting.

Temple has a lot to offer those who love nature. Spot wildlife at the Miller Springs Nature Center where you may see wild turkeys, armadillos, tarantulas and snakes. Hike along the trails of Mother Neff State Park, among forests of Texas oak, bur oak and mixed evergreen trees. Go swimming or boating at Lake Belton and then camp overnight near the waterfront.

Give the family a day to remember at the Lions Junction Family Water Park. Enjoy the slides, a lazy river and a play area with a railroad-themed water feature.

At night, have dinner in a welcoming bar with some live music. Alternatively, dine in one of the many restaurants. Choose from grills and steakhouses, Italian, Chinese and many more options.

Located close to the interstate highway between Waco and Austin, Temple is an easy city to get to by car. The nearest major airport is Killeen-Fort Hood Regional Airport, 32 miles (52 kilometers) away.

With its museums, wildlife and scenery, Temple is an inviting blend of culture, fun and relaxation.

We stayed there because Waco was so expensive. The room was nice (except for a roach)The room was cooled well. The only different thing was they take $50 out of your account until the next morning.(stay at BW 90%)never had that. They explained why.
